Filipino Folklore: Myths, Legends, and Traditions

This series explores Filipino myths, legends and traditions in a contemporary illustrative manner. Through scholarly research and interviews I have found that an increasing number of second generation Filipinos growing up in North America have become disconnected with their heritage and tradition. Unlike their Asian counterparts, Filipinos who grew up in North America lack the knowledge of symbolic Filipino iconography because of their assimilation into American culture.  Drawing on folklore, specifically myths and legends, this series explores the traditional stories of the Babaylan (Filipino Witchdoctor), Aswang (Filipino Demon), and Araw Ng Mga Patay (All Saints Day).
