I am a printmaker, drawer, and human being. This body of work intends to illustrate a narrative, story and composition that could resinate with you all. I want to tell a story. it might be my story, their story, or your own story, so feel free to deepen into my work and take it all personal.

My plastic work mainly focuses on the Feminine, the Intimate, and the Intimacy with the Self.
“Ephemernity” is a series of photo-paintings (giclée prints), in which the Shadow engages physically a sacred dance with nature. The substance of Shadow is unveiled; its deepest secrets, its intrinsic texture – invisible to the human eye – revealed. Shadow and nature intertwine, intermingle, melt into each other, to coalesce into a new vibratory entity independent from its original source.  Entity carrying its own ephemeral and sibylline message, opening the door to another dimensions – cosmic and eternal.

I call my work “iconic imagery”. It is drawn from my rural beginnings in the South where I learned from the women in my family to use objects found in the home and in nature to create art. The pieces I create are the interpretive study of woman as a symbolic image. They evoke nature, religious images and cultural references which have a strong feminine point of view.

I have always been drawn to the use of female allegorical images, such as the Madonna, angels, brides, warriors etc. These icons form the basis for my sculptures. The contrasting mediums I use help to convey the intended message. Collaged layers of metal lace with antique costume jewelry, hand carved wood and smooth procelain-like skin combine with welded steel to create my modern woman.

The pieces are sculpted in polymer clay or resin with fabricated steel, brass, silver and wood. I often incorporate found objects, rhinestones and old brass stampings. I then hand paint them with acrylic paint and cosmetic makeup. I enjoy the layering of different textures and media. My palette of techniques expands as my images develop and grow

In Transcendessence, I am exploring the role of women in this modern age.  The unending conflict that exists within every woman; the ability of the woman to transcend space and time- to suspend them- while she attempts to alter her own spiritual being into what this world expects of her, and yet, what she (fundamentally) needs to be.  A fantasy world.   I portray the figure as a somewhat ghostly image, in an effort to convey the translucidity of the female spirit.  Perhaps indicative of my own insecurities, though unfortunately relevant for all women, this current series of my work intends to show strength of spirit and will; the beautiful power within all women to rise above all and shine luminescently in the face of any adversity. However, please don’t misunderstand.  I could just as easily paint about the conflicts within men, religions, races…  The focus, here, is women because I am a woman.  A woman who has survived a great many hardships, and a woman with a great sense of spirit.  This, like all of my paintings, is personal.  I have so much love for all of humanity.

It is through the murky waters that she heaves a sigh and observes the universe.  The sky is blackened as the sun slumbers and the moon’s light dances upon the shores.  Temptation is a fierce sensation and the knowledge of where temptation can take her is what will always hold her back from doing what her desires whisper so sweetly.

The water, like nature’s opening embrace, engulfs her as she dives into the depths.  Honey-sweet is the taste once all the negative energy has been washed away. A spiritual re-birthing, a new life.
