Biography Manuel Vermeire

Manuel Vermeire was born in Chiusdino (Siena) on July 12th 1987, the son of Belgian parents who had moved to Italy a few years earlier. He has completed his secondary education arts study at the Istituto d’Arte Duccio di Buoninsegna in Siena, obtaining the Maturità Artistica in July 2007.

At that point he decided to direct his artistic efforts towards the traditional graphic techniques of engraving and printmaking. He was awarded a scholarship that enabled him to enroll at the internationally renowned institute Il Bisonte in Firenze, Italy. This allowed him to gain a profound insight into techniques as etching, aquatint, drypoint, mezzotint and burin engraving. His teachers were Rodolfo Ceccotti, Manuel Ortega and Vincenzo Burlizzi. For the full calender year of 2008 he remained engaged in this very intensive training course (1400 hours) which resulted in the diploma of ‘Qualifica Professionale di Incisore-Stampatore’, recognized by the region Toscana.

Having acquired this sound technical knowledge basis he went to stay with the Cork Printmakers in Cork, Ireland, one of the eminent professional printmaking workshops in Europe.
