Ritual: Garment and Performance

This piece was an exploration of merging garment making with performance. The garment shown contains a pouch within the skirt that held the “mass” during the performance, until it was removed by a second figure, placed into the gold grate, and taken away.

Conceptually, I am primarily fueled by my experience being raised in a religious environment. I have a keen interest in garments and objects that suggest ceremonial or ritualistic usage. It is critical that I make pieces like this one to process what it means to me to have broken away from these religious roots.
