Within the series “Make. Believe.” there are various characters from popular children’s fairy tales and folk stories placed within the modern world and made to deal with the harsh reality of a non-fictional setting. Each character that is chosen is given an action in their new world that is specific to the story that they are referenced from. However, each of these images stresses the difference between the imagined character and their real-life setting by making sure each place or action is completely undesirable. This exaggerated division is set into place to allow heightened tension from seeing a beloved childlike character placed in a dangerous or alarming situation that is often shielded from most children.
