torch-fired enamel on copper jewelry

  • Added 10/29/2010

i sgraffito (scratch) drawings into hardened liquid enamel on copper. the piece is then torch-fired, making the design permanent (the exposed copper turns black or red from the scatching, when fired). transparent colored enamels are then applied in successive torch-firings until complete. the nuclear series is a commentary on the nuclear industry and its attempt to bring more nuclear power plants on-line, portraying them as a “green” alternative for power. the canvas series was me realizing that i could view my work as a painting, only in the medium of jewelry. yes, i do aspire to be a painter someday.
