Abstracted

My current work is an exploration and interpretation of the human body and the space it occupies. My abstractions come from two extremes, the figure, as well as the space surrounding it. By applying a variety of techniques and ways of seeing, I am interested in building environments and compositions that allude to the human’s internal structure, as well as objects found in the figure’s surroundings. My experiments focus on color, mark-making and varying levels of abstraction. Where someone may see a landscape, another may see flesh. The way in which the image then shifts between very different visual worlds is my essential goal. I challenge the viewer to interpret the space, as well as its origin, in an exploration of the possible source.
