Catholicism is used as the starting point. Through idea and icon, The Church formed my earliest understanding of both sex and art.
These paintings were created as a result of three assumptions, three questions and a belief in balance.
Assumptions:
1.) Sex is central to humankind.
2.) There are two human natures: female and male.
3.) There exists a cultural obsession with youth.
Questions:
1.) What aspects of Catholicism make it effective at enforcing doctrinal observance?
2.) What happens when an idea contradicts human nature?
3.) What are the lingering effects of a belief once held but now rejected?
