Digital pinhole portraits: I keep coming back to the ideas of how we view ourselves within history…
I am an aspiring artist with a background in digital art and a bachelor’s degree from The Art Institute of California, San Diego.
Unlike the famous Henri Cartier-Bression “instant décisif”, where the people in the pictures don’t know they are photographed, “l’instant incisif” (the incisive instant) is the moment people realise they are going to be photographed.
I’ve always loved old hand colored photographs and it was vintage images that inspired me to turn to photography as a medium.
Physically interacting with the print of a photograph before it’s crystalized gives me a platform of control to re-imagine the rhetoric of the image without relying on digital manipulation.
These photos are meant to show the subjects “emerging from darkness” both literally and figuratively, using creative methods.
